Groundbreaking for the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument in North Ogden Utah

May 19, 20201 min read

A groundbreaking ceremony for the first Utah Gold Star Families Memorial monument took place on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at the North Ogden City offices at 10:00 AM. (505 E 2700 N North Ogden)

The ceremony included North Ogden Mayor Neal Berube and other stakeholders. This monument will honor the families of those members of the United States Armed Forces who have given the ultimate sacrifice and will be the first of its kind in the state of Utah. Fundraising for the project has been underway since last summer. The dedication of the monument is expected to occur this coming July. We invited the press to help cover the event for those that can’t be there in person to participate due to the COVID-19 outbreak. All funds and labor for the project have been raised through donations from private citizens and local companies within the community. Construction will take place to replace the existing concrete and sidewalks near the flagpole between Weber County Library and the North Ogden Police Department. E.K. Bailey Construction will begin work immediately following the ceremony.

We would like to thank all of those who have helped raise the funds to purchase and install the new monument as well as the coordination between Follow the Flag and North Ogden City.

This monument will be the first of its kind in Utah joining dozens of other monuments of its kind throughout the country. The movement is sponsored by the Hershel Woody Williams Medal of Honor Foundation. Follow the Flag hopes that this will be the first of many within the state of Utah.
